Grienke for the Cy Young sure, but MPV? The team is 11 games under .500. No way he should be involved in the MPV discussion.

I'm not sure what "MPV" is, but Greinke deserves the MVP because he has produced better value than anyone else in baseball. Playing better than anyone else is equivalent to being the most valuable. Team success is not representative of-- nor does it reflect-- individual value.

Player A who has a 5.0 WAR on a team in last place is just as valuable for his team as Player B who has a 5.0 WAR on a first place team.

Varitek shouldn't be the Gold Glove winner. Mauer or Napoli, if Mauer doesn't have the innings. Heck, Jorge Posada has thrown out more baserunners than Varitek, and he's a mess behind the plate.

An extremely large portion of throwing out runners is not within the catcher's control (how well the pitcher holds the runner on, pitcher's time to the plate, quality of the fielder catching the throw, etc.). Admittedly, there aren't a whole lot of great statistics out there right now with which to evaluate catchers, but the ones we do have tend to point towards Varitek.

BTW, Posada's thrown out more baserunners than anyone in baseball besides Russell Martin, so I'm not completely certain where you were going with that one.

I am sorry but his value is wonderful and all but that doesn't make him the MVP. I am reminded of when after hitting 57 Home Runs after the season Ralph Kiner asked for a raise, and the owner told him Ralph we finished last with you, we'll finish last without you. With or without Grienke they'd still be in 4th or 5th so how is he most valuable?
